What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is the hands-on treatment of joint and muscle problems, most often in the spine, using controlled physical force to improve how a joint moves. A chiropractic physician examines how your spine, hips, shoulders and limbs move, finds the joints that are moving too little or in the wrong pattern, and applies a specific, controlled force to that joint. That is an adjustment, made to improve its motion and address the pain and stiffness around it.

Adjusting is one part of the work. A chiropractor also treats the muscle and soft tissue around a restricted joint, prescribes movement and strengthening exercises, and looks at the daily loads that keep bringing the problem back: a desk setup, a long commute, a training program, a repetitive task at work.

Here, that care happens inside a clinic with medical providers, imaging and rehabilitation on site, so the evaluation is not limited to what a chiropractor working alone can see.

  • Four chiropractic physicians on staff
  • Board-certified neurologist, nurse practitioners and a physician assistant in the same building
  • Digital X-ray, video fluoroscopy, diagnostic ultrasound and EMG/NCV nerve testing on site
  • 4705 South Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28217
  • Monday–Thursday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm | Friday 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • (704) 525-6288
  • Auto injury and federal workers' compensation claims handled in-house
Why Choose Dynamic Health Carolinas for Chiropractic

What Makes Our Chiropractic Care Different

Most chiropractic offices in Charlotte are solo or two-doctor practices. When a case needs an MRI, a nerve conduction study, an injection or formal physical rehabilitation, that office refers you out: a different clinic, a new intake form, a second record, and time spent waiting between them.

This clinic is built the other way round. Four Chiropractic Physicians work in the same building as a board-certified Neurologist, Nurse Practitioners, a Physician Assistant and the rehabilitation team.

  • Imaging: digital X-ray and video fluoroscopy on site
  • Nerve testing: EMG here, read by a board-certified neurologist
  • Injections and rehabilitation: both in this building
  • Your records: one chart, not one per clinic
  • Coordination: ours, not yours

That describes how the clinic is built, not a promise about your outcome.

Conditions We Treat with Chiropractic Care in Charlotte

Most of the pain that brings people to a chiropractor is mechanical. It comes from how a joint, muscle or disc is being loaded and moved, and it changes when you change position or activity. Some pain is not mechanical, and it needs a different answer entirely. Telling those two apart is the first job of your evaluation here, which is exactly why the chiropractic exam happens in a clinic with medical diagnostics rather than in isolation.

Who Chiropractic Care Helps

Those who come to us is when they've had enough of the pain and want control of their health back. They are looking for answers. Ask us. We're here to help. Our consultation is complimentary so take advantage.

The desk worker whose neck tightens by mid-afternoon. The commuter whose low back aches after the drive. The weekend athlete stuck on a strain that keeps returning. Someone still stiff months after a collision. An injured federal employee whose claim has stalled.

Families are welcome too, and always have been. A household often arrives one person at a time and ends up with several in care: a parent, a teenager with a sports strain, a grandparent who wants to keep walking comfortably. Bodies change at every age, and so does the care. The examination, the force used and the length of the visit are all scaled to the person on the table.

What Care Looks Like at Each Stage

  • Infants and children. Movement, symmetry and posture. Very light contact, short visits, often on a parent's lap.
  • Teenagers. Growth, training load, backpacks and screens. Adult techniques scaled down.
  • Expecting mothers. Low back, hip and pelvic discomfort. Gentler techniques, modified each trimester.
  • Working adults. Desk and commute tension, long-standing back and neck pain. The full range of care.
  • Older adults. Stiffness, arthritis-related limits, staying active. Lower-force and instrument methods.

Children and teenagers are not small adults, and both the examination and the force used are different. Pregnancy changes posture, ligament laxity and pelvic loading month by month, so positioning and technique change with it. Dr. Lauren Stokes, DC is certified in the Webster technique and leads both.

We work alongside your family's existing providers, including your physician, your child's pediatrician and your OB-GYN or midwife, rather than around them.

Chiropractic Techniques and Adjustment Methods We Use

Ask a Charlotte chiropractor which techniques they use and you should get names, not adjectives. Here is what happens in our treatment rooms.

\

Manual, Hands-on Adjusting

The traditional adjustment. The doctor positions the joint, takes it to the end of its available motion and applies a quick, shallow, controlled force. It is over in a second and often produces an audible release, which is gas moving inside the joint and not bones being moved back into place.

\

Instrument-assisted and Low-force Adjusting

Not everyone wants or should have a manual adjustment. Instrument adjusting delivers a smaller, precisely measured force through a handheld or computerized device, with no twisting and no thrust. It is used for patients who are apprehensive, for older patients, for acute and highly irritable joints, and anywhere a manual adjustment is not appropriate.

\

Extremity Adjusting

Shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles and feet are all joints a chiropractor can treat, and a knee complaint often traces back to the hip or the foot rather than the knee itself. Extremity work is a routine part of care here, particularly for athletic and repetitive-strain injuries.

\

Traction, Soft Tissue and Rehabilitation

Where a disc or narrowed segment is involved, traction applies a slow, sustained pull to unload it. An adjustment restores motion; the muscles around the joint still have to hold that change. Visits routinely include soft tissue work plus home exercises, and formal rehabilitation is in the same building when a case needs more.

What We Check Before Anyone Is Adjusted

We examine first, and part of that examination is confirming that what you have is something chiropractic care can help.

Chiropractic physicians train as primary-contact providers, which carries a specific responsibility: to recognize the findings that belong with someone else first, and to say so. Pain after a significant fall. Progressive weakness or numbness in a limb. Night pain that does not change with position. Fever alongside spinal pain. We look holistically at the whole patient, not just for an adjustment.

If we find an issue, the next step is identifying what is causing it. For radiating symptoms, EMG/NCV testing can help pinpoint the source. Imaging can also be performed and reviewed here, along with other options on our advanced technologies page.

You get an answer in days, not weeks.

That screening is not a disclaimer. It is the part of the examination that tells us which of the things we do is right for you, and occasionally that the answer is something else entirely. We can work with almost anyone, and if we are not the right fit we will say so at your first visit and point you toward who is.

Over 500 5-star reviews

I am so happy I started going to Dynamic Health Carolinas, after going to another chiropractor for over 1 year. I was given an Xray for my neck, which has constant stiffness, etc from a car accident. By just using 1 machine to give my neck more flexibility, I have no doubt I will feel better in time with their various therapy treatments and knowing what they need to treat after viewing my Xrays. I am definitely looking forward to all my treatments to enjoy what I always did without pain. Thanks so much Dr. Evans.

Charlotte Chiropractic FAQs

Charlotte Chiropractors

Do I need a referral to see a Chiropractor in Charlotte?

No. North Carolina allows direct access to a chiropractic physician, so you can book without a referral from a medical doctor. Some insurance plans and workers' compensation claims have their own requirements, which we check when we verify your benefits before your first visit.

Does chiropractic care hurt?

Most people find adjustments comfortable rather than painful, and some soreness for a day afterwards is common, much like after a workout. Tell your chiropractor if you are apprehensive or in acute pain. There are lower-force and instrument options for exactly that reason, and nothing is done without explaining it first.

Do you take X-rays before adjusting?

Only when the examination indicates it. Digital X-ray is on site, so when imaging is needed it can be taken and reviewed here rather than at another facility. Not every patient needs it.

Will I be adjusted on my first visit?

Usually not. Your first visit is an examination: your history, a physical and movement assessment, and any imaging we need, so we understand what is going on before we treat it. Treatment normally begins at your second visit.

If what we find means chiropractic is not the right approach for you, we will say so and point you toward what is.

How many visits will I need?

Nobody can honestly answer that at the first appointment, and you should be wary of a number offered before you have been examined. What we can commit to is a defined reassessment point: your chiropractor tells you when we will re-measure, and if you are not progressing by then, the plan changes or you are referred to the appropriate provider here.

Come in for a complimentary consultation and we can discuss treatment options.

Is chiropractic covered by insurance or workers' compensation?

We work with many insurance plans and regularly handle auto injury claims, federal workers' compensation and North Carolina state workers' compensation. Benefits vary by plan, so we verify yours before your first visit and tell you what we find.

Can I see a Chiropractor and a Medical Doctor at the same clinic?

Yes. The Chiropractic Physician and medical team all practice at this location, on one record. That is a reason most patients give for choosing us.

This will save you time and money because our team is available to you in one location.

Can the whole family be seen at the same practice?

Yes, and many are. Every age is seen here by the same team, in the same building, and every new patient starts with a consultation and history.

Do you adjust children, and is chiropractic appropriate during pregnancy?

Both are handled by different care and on their own pages. See pediatric chiropractic care in Charlotte and prenatal chiropractic visits, and speak to us before booking so the right doctor sees you.
