Top Four Charlotte Walking Trails:
McAlpine Creek Greenway – Constructed in 1978, McAlpine Creek Greenway was the first greenway trail built in the entire Piedmont region. It is the only greenway where you can see river otter, beaver, mink and Mecklenburg County’s only population of native Larkspur – a very rare and ephemeral purple wildflower.
Little Sugar Creek Greenway – This 15 mile path runs through the heart of Uptown Charlotte. It starts with NoDa’s Cordelia Park in the north and winds through Independence Park and CPCC’s campus, all the way to Freedom Park in Dilworth. This beautiful Charlotte walking trail provides a full day’s worth of adventure and sightseeing!
The Booty Loop – This 2.8-mile loop through Myers Park is named for the booty busting workout bicyclers and walkers experience on the trail. Circling around Queens University in one of Charlotte’s greenest neighborhoods, this trail is a great way to see some of the Queen City’s most beautiful homes. It is also the home of LiveStrong’s annual 24 Hours of Booty bike race to benefit the Levine Cancer Institute. Start at the parking lot on the corner of Queens Road and Pembroke Avenue and ride clockwise on Queens Road, Selwyn Avenue, Queens West, Hopedale Avenue and Pembroke Avenue.
Freedom Park – This beautiful 98-acre park is a great place to stretch your legs in the heart of Charlotte. Walkers can circle the beautiful duck pond at the center of the park, explore the nature museum or take a break to swing on one of the huge playgrounds!
